Life has a way of throwing curveballs when we least expect them.
For me, it was a series of heart-wrenching losses that brought me to my knees – the death of my father, the sudden loss of my beloved dog, and the breakdown of my marriage, all within a matter of months.
As a Life Coach, I thought I had the tools to cope, but I found myself struggling despite therapeutic support. It was during this dark period that Breathwork kept appearing on my radar. Intrigued and desperate for relief, I took a leap of faith and signed up for a five-day emotional detox course. Little did I know, this decision would change my life profoundly.
Growing up in an environment where emotions were stifled and crying was discouraged, I was unprepared for the torrent of feelings that Breathwork unleashed. Over those five days, I cried more than I had in years. It was surreal, enlightening, and deeply releasing. This experience became the catalyst for my healing, helping me navigate through grief and loss with newfound resilience. It was so profound and beneficial that I decided to train to become a certified practitioner.
As part of my training, I had to commit to practicing Breathwork every day for a minimum of a year. This dedication proved to be deeply transformative, teaching me that even small amounts of Conscious Connective Breathwork could have a profound effect on my life. I began to feel highly abundant and secure in myself, knowing I could trust myself to manage life without becoming overwhelmed.
The impact of Breathwork on my life has been nothing short of bloody amazing. Here are the top benefits I've experienced:
1. A profound sense of calm and the ability to cope with any situation
2. Greater control and regulation of my emotions
3. The capacity to respond thoughtfully to situations rather than react impulsively
4. An overwhelming feeling of abundance – a realisation that who I am, just as I am, is enough.
Breathwork has become an integral part of my wellness plan, and I've even integrated it into my Life Coaching practice,(a method I call “Life & Breath”) helping clients utilise it as part of their own wellness strategies. It's more than just a wellness trend – it's a powerful tool for personal growth and healing. The potential of Breathwork for personal development is immense. It can:
- Change your thinking patterns
- Enhance self-awareness, leading to more thoughtful communication
- Help regulate emotions, especially in intense situations - Build resilience
- Encourage a sense of responsibility and accountability As we continue to have important conversations about mental health and well-being, especially within the LGBTQ+ community
Breathwork offers an accessible, powerful approach to self-care and emotional regulation. Let's get real for a moment - life can be a wild ride, right? But here's the secret weapon we all have: our breath. It's always there, ready to transform your day from meh to marvelous.
