Top tips when visiting North Devon

What to see and do, beyond Out & Wild Festival site
We know so many people travel from far and wide to visit Out & Wild Festival. 22 countries last year as well as from across the UK.
So, for 2026 we have arranged for you to extend your stay at the campsite, if you come with your own tent and van. Plus you may also want to stay longer if you are staying off site. Lots of attendees are already doing this and Out & Wild will be planning some post fest fun you can join in with on the Mon, Tues and Wed after the festival in July. Link to extend is HERE.
As the Founder of Out & Wild, I wanted to see what North Devin had to offer. So I am staying near the site for most of Jan to suss it out and post my #toptips for you. You can check them out on where you can find us @outandwildlgbtq
I will also do a blog that I will share on our website.
#TopTipNo1 - Saunton Sands
Now, I have to admit I have visited Saunton before, and it has to be one of my favourite beaches in the UK. 3 miles of golden sand, with a back drop of sand dunes that form part of UNESCO-protected Braunton Burrows Biosphere Reserve.

Saunton Sands is just 30 mins drive from the festival site. There is a big car park, suitable for vans as well as cars. You can grab a coffee and snacks from a cafe on site and there is a surf and gift shop.
As this is a fantastic surf spot, you can also bring your board, and if you fancy it book surf lessons. And if you really want to treat yourself, you can book spa sessions or have lunch or dinner in the highly rated Saunton Sands Hotel (its the beautiful white building on the cliff tops, amazing views!).
You can even book yoga on the beach sessions.

Dog friendly year round
Saunton Sands is a dog friendly beach year round, and Noreen really loved running along the sand and through the waves.

As well as beach walks, there are some lovely trails across Braunton Burrows and when Noreen and I visited earlier this year (in May) we got to see some of the wildlife.

All-Terrain Beach Wheelchairs
Saunton Beach shop has a number of all-terrain Landeez style wheelchairs for hire, allowing wheelchair users easy access to the beach and the shallows of the sea.
Easy to use and operate, they are available for hire on a half day, daily or weekly basis to suit your requirements. Advance booking is available and recommended during the summer period and school holidays. Suitable for adults and children alike. For bookings please contact Saunton Sands Beach Shop on (01271) 890771.
I will personally be organising a walk and picnic on Saunton Beach after the festival, so I can share with you one of my fave spaces.
