Overview

A weekend of books, rest and good company at Chapel on the Green, in the heart of the Black Mountains near Hay-on-Wye. Friday – Arrive to tea, cake, and a cosy welcome — share your all-time favourite book, then settle in for quiet reading and a home-cooked dinner, followed by an author talk. Saturday – Optional morning yoga and a hearty Hobbit's breakfast, then a guided tour of Hay-on-Wye with local bookseller Tom Owen of Gay on Wye, and time to browse the town's famous bookshops. Afternoons are yours to rest, read, or wander, before a book-themed autumn feast and fireside reading in the evening. Sunday – A guided nature walk exploring the landscape as if reading a text, bringing a reflective close to the weekend. Throughout – Full board with vegetarian, vegan and indulgent home-cooked food from resident chef Matthew, plenty of free time to read, journal, or simply be still. Two nights, full board, all-inclusive of talks, walks, and gatherings — a retreat for readers who want to slow down and reconnect with books, nature, and each other. Not staying over? Non-residential places are also available if you'd like to join us for the days without the overnight stay.
